Earlier this month, I started Rick and Morty with the expectation that I wouldn't enjoy it. Safe to say a few days into watching I had binged dozens of episodes and a couple seasons a day and had gotten hooked.
I had heard of it ever since middle school and didn't like the people I knew who were also into the show as I had figured the fandom had been infested with those kind of people. Quite frankly, I wasn't entirely wrong but I'm far removed from that specific demographic to where it hardly crosses my path.
What I hadn't expected, was the majority of the fans to be in denial of the sort of relationship that Rick and Morty have with each other, as well as the relationships between the rest of the family.
After finishing the show, I came to the heart wrenching conclusion that it honestly changed me and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Morty's character conclusion after s9e10 will always be heartbreaking to me. He's just a kid that wants to be loved and cared for like other kids and yet he isn't granted that luxury even in an alternate reality.
Even when he separates himself completely from the infinite, Evil Morty faces the same issues: no one to love and care for him. At least with Morty Prime, he has a semblance of that sometimes.
Morty is just a tragedy and it honestly hurts as I'm constantly rooting for him and constantly, it goes south very, very fast. I'm excited to see what the writers have in store for season 10. I'm eagerly waiting.
