Between the Sheets

Earlier this month, I started Rick and Morty with the expectation that I wouldn't enjoy it. Safe to say a few days into watching I had binged dozens of episodes and a couple seasons a day and had gotten hooked.

I had heard of it ever since middle school and didn't like the people I knew who were also into the show as I had figured the fandom had been infested with those kind of people. Quite frankly, I wasn't entirely wrong but I'm far removed from that specific demographic to where it hardly crosses my path.

What I hadn't expected, was the majority of the fans to be in denial of the sort of relationship that Rick and Morty have with each other, as well as the relationships between the rest of the family.

After finishing the show, I came to the heart wrenching conclusion that it honestly changed me and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Morty's character conclusion after s9e10 will always be heartbreaking to me. He's just a kid that wants to be loved and cared for like other kids and yet he isn't granted that luxury even in an alternate reality.

Even when he separates himself completely from the infinite, Evil Morty faces the same issues: no one to love and care for him. At least with Morty Prime, he has a semblance of that sometimes.

Morty is just a tragedy and it honestly hurts as I'm constantly rooting for him and constantly, it goes south very, very fast. I'm excited to see what the writers have in store for season 10. I'm eagerly waiting.

Bramble

Been so bad with my schedule but I have good reason for that!

I've moved! 2,000 miles away from home, away from my small little city in SC to another...also small city but this time in OR. Lots of work put in, lots of brain power drained. I've never lived outside of the east coast, never even visited outside of the east coast truthfully (furthest west I've gone being Chicago and Texas). This is very new. I had to quit my job because unfortunately the transfer I was hoping for never came through. I have to start all the way over in a new state, with a new job, in a new home.

Maybe this is what your 20s are all about: new beginnings. Well, I've been here for almost a week now, but by the time this is posted, it'll be a little over a week in a foreign state across the country. I hope that my first full week in my new home is a good change for me.

Many, many things

 Posted and dipped unfortunately.

The past few weeks have been pretty busy yet under stimulating at the same time. There's been nothing grandeur happening online, I've been slowly drawing everyday. I came back from a trip to Chicago on the 29th of last month and I had another week off of work for my birthday vacation time. I didn't do anything, though, other than binge watch and finish Rick and Morty.

I actually really truly enjoyed that show and since there's a lot happening in my personal life at the moment, high emotions means I've latched onto something that's given me a nice escape while I take a break from big things. As usual, my faves are the main characters, things really haven't changed for me there. I finished the last episode of season 9 with a heavy chest when I realized Morty is truly set up to fail.

But I'll save my thoughts on the show for a later post. Countdown to moving less than 3 weeks, yay?

Last Word

I often think about James Sunderland and his hero complex.

Now, I've only seen the remake of Silent Hill 2 but from my understanding there isn't an incredible amount of difference between the original and this game. And anything not in the remake explicitly are mentioned in the notes and lore littered around the game. But that's besides my point.

Point is, James is overcompensating for his murder of his beloved wife, Mary, and as the viewer we're forced to watch him constantly try to save the women around him. It's exhausting, trying to watch a man desperately try to rescue women who do not want to be saved--in fact, it's embarrassing. He's embarrassing, and we see him also constantly ridiculed for his fake care and concern or the fact that his heart truly isn't in it. Its glaringly obvious with Maria, but with Angela she blatantly calls him out on it and refers to Mary in the same breath which has James's mask slipping.

Not to say I think James is a horrible awful guy incapable of redemption. I don't like attaching one label to James in general, but this is part of his nefarious charm, to me at least. I enjoy watching him stumble to make up for his sins and ultimately not reaching that satisfaction. With the Laura ending, I think that might be the only ending where his efforts actually come into fruition.

I enjoyed a deeply flawed character, just look at my discography that often gets me made fun of at work, James is definitely towards the top of that list.

Not like they're similar but the other character who immediately pops up in my mind about a man with a need to overcompensate is Joel Miller. A man searching for his own redemption to his guilt in the form of a girl/woman, both characters don't care about anything other than the lessening of their own suffering with little regards to others. I don't think either are heartless or anything of the sort, that's not where I'm coming from at all.

I just think James needs to do some saving to settle his devilish guilt at the expense of other women's lives. Pretty basic but I just wanted to share obvious thoughts.

Caipirinha

Been working extra hard on art, blogging and the in between. I'm soon going to be ACTUALLY adulting and living on my own... so scary... But I think I'm excited, I don't know yet. I hope to be happy on my own and really grow into my individuality and responsibilities. I'm working so, so hard on making it for art full time; customer service really weights on the soul, y'know? I'm just keeping my eye on the prize and hoping and wishing for the best. I believe I can do it, everyone else believes I can do it-- I really do think I can do it (fingers crossed!!).

I hope to start listing ACEOS and getting more commissions soon. I took a three day slack with art but to get where I want to end up, I've got to be consistent. I'm determined, I even filled my planner up until the first week of September. That's my birthday week so I won't be working on anything other than studies and art to post. No streaming, no commissions. Just art for myself and something to not stress over. I'll have enough come move in day.

I hope for more art opportunities there as well! I don't live in a super small city but I do live in the bum fuck south so there's not much opportunity for artists locally. Some in the surrounding cities, sure, but not where I reside. Hard to get your talent out there when hardly anyone cares about that kind of thing here LOL.

Had a scare and thought I'd have to move three weeks earlier but it was an just a misunderstanding that got fixed within the hour! No one tells you how stressful becoming an actual adult is EUGH!!

All in all, so many scary things are happening and I'm simply riding the way and going with the flow. I'm finally adulting in a way where I feel like a genuine adult and its terrifyingly dreadful!!! Close to being exciting, but I'm not quite there yet.

The Bee's Knees

Hi everyone!

Short introduction post just to put myself out in the world with hopes of finding my audience. I'm a young black artist who likes to delve in media and fandom. I hope you all join me on my thought and word vomit adventure.
